With the winter months upon us, available time up in the shed will become scarce as I battle with the elements - the shed relies on power from the house still by an extension lead and it has no heating. So with this in mind I made the decision to take the Furman Smithy village board up to the house o work on it indoors during the months ahead.
Work has already started on this board, and whilst the layout of the village was rather roughly drawn out to start with, the card surfaces for the roads has now been put into place with the large roundabout of Four Gallows taking up a large part of the scheme.
I then started on the renovation of one of the terrace house ranges I got from Great Eastern Models in Norwich a few months ago, repairing damage to it and adding some new chimneys too. Once complete a raised surface was added which allowed the pathway to have a kerb upon which the terrace was fixed down onto. Then scenics were added and the first part of the paving from the Ring Road into the High Street was added in too.
The area is officially named Victoria Terrace and acts as a counterpart to the predominating Tudor style timber framed buildings along the opposite side of the High Street.
There are more buildings to add to the village scene - a small cottage is being added with a garden on the other side of the Ring Road from Victoria Terrace, Two more timber framed buildings are going in behind and to the side of the ones on the High Street to create a courtyard, and St Marys Church will go in just before the railway bridge over the station in a slightly raised position so that so special little cameos can be added to the graveyard.
In other news, the OHLE masts are continuing to be added, more have found their way onto the layout, plus there will be another re-think on Furman Smithy Junction due to a problem which has come to light. More on this in another News Post...
Busy times...!!!
There is a short video about the first building phase for the village which can be seen HERE
And a selection of pictures are in the GALLERY PAGE which can be found HERE
