EAST COAST CLASS 91 LEAVES COLCESTER...

Colcester Depot has seen many changes and not least in the different rail franchises which have appeared over the years. One of these left-over sets was the East Coast Class 91, four coaches and a DVT from the period when the lines in and out of Colcester saw the Depot and the Station used by the company in a bid to attract more customers connecting at Colcester with WCML services.

The plan initally worked but then numbers started to decline and soon East Coast only ran a few trains through Colcester. They did however keep one set at the Depot and this is the loco and coaches that have been here since that time.

With the arrival of the fourth Azuma unit and the LNER Class 91 it was determined that the East Coast Class 91 needed to relocate to Norwich to await new duties. Its removal from Colcester Depot has now also freed up much needed space for the Class 755 Stadler Flirt units which are planned for the Colcester lines as well as room for another electric loco.
