AZUMA No.4 HAS ARRIVED AT COLCESTER...!!!
The final 5 car unit Azuma set has arrived at Colcester Depot and now completes the fleet of Azuma units that the agreement with LNER was set up for. This will enable LNER to have a permanent base at Colcester to run two sets in either direction on the lines out to Denchester and onwards towards Peterborough, Doncaster, York, Newcastle and Edinburgh - and also southbound towards St Elizabeths, Stevenage and London Kings Cross. The divert off the East Coast Mainline (ECML) to Colcester has opened up LNER to take passengers at Colcester International from both local, InterCity and Virgin services further north or south than those services can provide - it therefore has provided a vital connection link between East and West.
The Azuma sets will become a common sight at Colcester International and will form the main backbone of the Hi-Speed services along with the Class 395 Javelin sets run by SouthEastern.
