Class 43 HST has a little trouble!

Okay, possibly a cautionary tale about buying used loco`s from Ebay or similar selling sites. The Class 43 HST i recently purchased for about £80 which included power car, dummy car and two coaches (obviously from a train set) turned up in a well packed box and quite speedy delivery too. The loco immediately went up to the Shed to be tested on the layout because the seller advised it would require some running in, however upon placing it on the tracks it was clear the whole loco rocked unevenly so looking underneath revealed that the two main traction tyres were missing. Okay, no problem - simply order some a fit them. About a week later they turned up so two tyres were duly fitted to the Class 43 and once again it was placed on the tracks for a test run. Despite power getting to the loco and even the lights coming on it refused to move, a concern because the seller claimed to have given it a test run. I consulted my friend Steve Fuller who took a look at it but it was clear it needed a fair bit of attention, far more than the seller had mentioned. Steve took it on board and im glad to say that after a very concise maintenance and overhaul of the Ringfield motor inside the Class 43, it is now finally working albeit still requiring a little bit of extra weight to help the traction better. He has also fitted a DCC Decoder chip to the loco and once the weight issue is solved i hope to have it back on Colcester`s tracks to finally have her maiden voyage...
