MORE REBUILD WORK!!!

Colcester MK 4 rebuild continues with further work done wityhin the shed.

The removal of two key items has now widened up the area ready for the next step to begin. Firstly the board and remains of Furman Smithy Station were lifted completely so that there is now nothing on that area of the board to interfere with further operations, in fact some lifting of the tracks on the upper storage yard was also started which included the removal of four curved Peco points intact with no damage done. Furman Smithy Station itself will not be saved as the new plan requires the station to follow a slightly different footprint than the original one. However elements from it will transfer over to the new station which will for the first time include a footbridge too.

The second major piece of removal was the entire sundeala board and cross frame that ran in front of the shed doorway. This was held down by several screws, quite why i put so many in i do not remember, but it took a fair while to lift and remove. Now its out of the way you can walk freely in and out of the shed again for the first time since before 2018. As you come into the shed the area on the right will reduce down further and will accomodate the two new storage yards, one above the other. There will also be a very restricted Depot sidings with the main Depot spread out at either end.

Work will now continue clockwise around the shed interior to rebuild the frame and extend it where the new layout requires extra space. Strengthening the frame is a number one priority and the goal is to have a strong, firm frame and baseboard before the work continues laying track and scenics.

Here are a few pictures from the recent work plus you can watch the lastest video update on this link HERE
